Adam Lagace
Adam Lagace, metalsmith jeweller with his BFA in Jewellery+Metals from the Alberta College of Art + Design, currently teaches through the college's Continuing Education Programs and the Chinook Learning Centre.
My core focus is on reapplying blacksmithing techniques to jewellery. I find metal to be strong but forgiving with the occasional bout of brittleness and melting for good measure.
Martina MacDonald
Cosmopolitan multimedia artist Martina MacDonald- Blériot was born in Austria. While raising
her children she became an award winning author and illustrator of several historical children
books published by Adrien Maeght in Paris, France. During that time she also exposed many of
her flower paintings, mostly watercolors, in Europe.
Most of Martina’s work, especially when creating jewelry, just “happens” out of what she
calls her multimedia chaos, which generally is represented by a pile of different items on the
floor: she then just finds the right combinations. Other important elements in her work process
include awareness, acceptance, impulsivity and intuition.
Additionally, her yoga teacher training and regular yoga practice provide harmony, spirituality
and metaphysical energy which are transcending into everything she creates.
Martina feels fulfilled when her work transmits joy, happiness and archaic imperfection. She
considers herself a catalyst, interpreting the world around her while creating her own world.
Selected for the exhibition “New Alberta Contemporaries” in 2012 in Calgary, curator Dr.
Caterina Pizanias wrote: “Martina MacDonald- Blériot, a rare graduate who paints for the love of
it, produces works that are pleasing to the eyes of the viewers”.
This sagittarius ascendant virgo obtained her second Bachelor degree from the Alberta
College of Art & Design in 2014 where she also graduated with honors in painting in 2011.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2015 her new work focuses on the creation of
breast plates that mix jewelry and fiber techniques . They are based on the concept of healing.
